Revenge is the expression of anger and agression towards mending some physical or spiritual wounds. It´s not deffensive, but offensive. Some think that for weakness, this is the best way to restore self confidence, if it was wounded: Taking advante accordingly to what says "an eye by an eye".
For some people, it may seem as the ideal vision of equity. Other believe that a vengeance emotion is the pure origin of Penal Justice. And there are some which say that is a wicked intention in order to erase in a magic and irrational way, something that has happened before.
It is senseless to attack when the damage has been done, that as a physical survival resource. And when it comes to love, retaliation can be a response for a broken heart. The intention: Be even with your partner, pay the same way you were damaged, envy the right you think you should have to do such harm or simply get back the power balance which was taken from you. "I´m tired of being inferior to you". It´s the way to take affective control to level the relationship and take down your partner so that you can put him in an inferior level.
Revenge is a strange way of a pleasant violence. The agressor perceives it as a deffensive act, morally accepted; But, it is really an outdated preservation instinct. The attack is over. The competence to get equality, through destruction is a very exclusive fenomena. It is a product of the mind and ego. No other animal acts only for revenge
There is a kind of living inmaturity in those who are willing to get back the offense at any price, and act as those children which, moved by envy or anger, destroy the toys of the others. When we try to protect ourselves from betrayal and abuse with the same weapons of those who had offended us, we fail in the risky trap, of becoming just like our agressor. When we attack unloyalty with the same, lie with lie, dishonesty with dishonesty, we lose moral authority. We get contaminated with the same things we are fighting to be cleaned of.

The advise in the word of the Lord, says:
See to it that no one misses the grace of God,
and that no bitter root grows up
to cause trouble and defile many.

There is a clear contradiction, in those who seek desperately for revenge. It´s like killing those who kill, just because killing is wrong. And they do not look for forgiveness as the way of solving the problem. One of the most beautiful teachings from our Lord is the Our Father prayer, specially when it says: "Our Father forgive our sins, as we forgive those who have sinned against us..."
The desire for revenge makes us to be anchored to the past, and doesn´t let us sleep in peace. Besides, as universal history has shown, it could become an ascendent spiral of pain and fanatism. Francis, the Writer, says:

If we keep in our hearts feelings like anger and resentment, God advices us to go as soon as we can, and talk to the person, and settle down differences, so that we can be free and receive the blessing of forgiveness. Do not take revenge, my beloved, but let God do Justice.
